a Welcome Statement From Kitwe Teaching Hospital Senior Medical Superintendent 

Kitwe Teaching Hospital provides comprehensive quality health care and medical services and undertakes the functions of Teaching, Research and Development within the limits of available resources. Kitwe Teaching Hospital is located in the City of Kitwe on the Copperbelt province. It was commissioned in 1958 as Llewlyn Hospital (named after Lord Llewelyn, one of the Governors in Northern Rhodesia). The name changed to Kitwe Central Hospital in 1964. The Hospital is located along Kuomboka Drive at Plot No. 2831 in Parklands. It is the third level referral hospital serving the second largest populated city in Zambia. It has 664 bed capacity and with daily patient traffic of up to 1,300.

Payment of by-pass & other fees

Patients and members of the general public are advised to make payments to Cashiers and ensure that a GRZ receipt is issued to them. Further, members of the general public are advised not to give money to any member of staff for any service other than Cashiers.

SURGERY

Department which provides surgical

It is a department which provides surgical treatment of patients mainly from within Kitwe district. It also carters for neighbouring districts within Copperbelt namely Kalulushi, Chingola, Mufulira, Chililabombwe and Lufwanyama.  In addition it carters for North western and Luapula provinces. It provides elective, emergency surgical services as well rehabilitative services.

Pediatrics & Child Health

Department of Pediatrics & Child Health

The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Kitwe Teaching Hospital is an advocate for children’s health and well-being. This is achieved by good clinical care practices, continuing professional development and training, research, and administration. Training opportunities for local and international student nurses, clinical officers and doctors are available and the new Specialist Training Programme (STP) 

Gynaecology & obstetrics

department handles ante-natal deliveries

The department handles ante-natal deliveries and post-natal cases. The department also handles postnatal mothers who have complications e.g. Caesar cases, difficult deliveries as well as malaria cases. The gynaecology department handles pregnancies less than 28 weeks, confirmed,as well as threatened abortions and cancers of the reproductive organs.  Other activities include:-bi-lateral tubo ligation.
