Kitwe Teaching Hospital is located in the City of Kitwe on the Copperbelt province. It was commissioned in 1958 as Llewlyn Hospital (named after Lord Llewelyn, one of the Governors in Northern Rhodesia). The name changed to Kitwe Central Hospital in 1964. The hospital is located along Kuomboka Drive at Plot No. 2831 in Parklands. It is the third level referral hospital serving the second largest populated city in Zambia. It has 664 bed capacity and with daily patient traffic of up to 1,300. Staffing currently stands at 912. (Over 80 from last recruitment) The hospital offers second and third level health care services to the population of Kitwe (estimated to be over 600,000). The hospital also caters for patients from North-western, Luapula and Northern provinces.
