Royal College of Surgeons Senior Vice President Bill Thomas says he is impressed with the enthusiasm Kitwe Teaching Hospital management has shown in training its staff in basic surgery.
Mr. Thomas says basic surgery is the foundation of every successful surgeon and all health practitioners planning to do surgery must consider.
He was speaking in an interview during training at KTH organized by the Surgical Society of Zambia in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons of the United Kingdom.
Mr. Thomas the training, which had been conducted in Mexico, Ghana, and Peru, was the first at KTH and the second in Zambia after the first one which was done many years ago.
He said the hospital should make the training sustainable by ensuring that the trained medical practitioners are able to transfer the skills and knowledge to others.
