By KTH Writer

As it endeavors to deliver quality healthcare services through partnership with the Corporate World and the community, the hospital today held its 2019 Open Day under the theme “61 years of evolving excellence in health care through community participation, leading the way towards universal health coverage”.

Speaking during the event First Lady Esther Lungu noted that what Kitwe Teaching Hospital had exhibited demonstrates government’s resolve to improve health service delivery across the continuum of care.
She explained that under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu, government has made significant strides in taking quality health services closer to the people as much as possible through the creation of new health infrastructure and deployment of health workers country wide

‘’the Esther Lungu Foundation Trust appreciates its partnerships with the Ministry of Health, government alone cannot manage to reach all parts of the country in providing quality health services. This is why cooperating partners, the corporate world, Non- Governmental Organizations are all needed to help health institutions like Kitwe Teaching Hospital” she said.

Mrs. Lungu observed that the holding of an Open Day by KTH gives an opportunity for the hospital to showcase the services it offers and in turn get feedback from the public.

She further said that since KTH’s opening in 1958 management has continued to exhibit innovation and trying its best to change the face of the hospital, She has since commended Kitwe Teaching Hospital for opening its doors to the public adding that management and staff should ensure that all people seeking health services at the institution were always shown compassion, empathy and love
“People come to a health facility like KTH when they are at their lowest hence it is imperative that we put them at the center of our work” she said.

And Kitwe Teaching Hospital Senior Medical Superintendent Abidan Chansa thanked the First Lady for having accepted the invitation to grace the 2019 Open Day.
“Your generosity for being with us Mom and also your community participation speaks volume throughout this country and abroad, you finding time to be with us is testimony of your commitment to better the lives of the Zambians” he said.
